PC runners take to the hills

The Plainsmen cross country runners competed in a shortened race in McCook Thursday, Sept. 16.

Races were moved to be one hour earlier than originally scheduled due to the heat to avoid keeping runners active during the 95-plus degree temperatures.

The race distance was also shortened from the normal 5,000 meters to 3,700 meters by removing a second lap around a particular portion of the course.

There were 14 teams present at the meet, with 67 boys competing and 53 girls.

Colton Pouk was the only runner from Perkins County to medal at McCook, finishing in sixth place with a time of 13:20.

Meredith Gloy was the frontrunner for the girls, finishing 17th with a time of 17:39.

The boys and girls teams both finished seventh overall with 129 points for the boys and 111 points for the girls team.

Thursday, Sept. 23 the Plainsmen runners will race at Crandle Creek Golf Course in Ogallala. The first race is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
