PC volleyball team falls to Ogallala

On Thursday, Sept. 20 the Perkins County volleyball team celebrated Homecoming alongside their fellow students and fans, taking on the Ogallala Indians.

The decades old rivalry between the two schools was met with a packed gym, screaming fans and a dynamic night of volleyball.

Although Perkins County fell to the Indians, bringing their season record to 3-11, they came away proud of their efforts and what they accomplished on the court

Perkins County took the court Thursday night in front of wall-to-wall fans and a fired up student body, clad in all white and ready to scream their lungs out.

The Indians quickly showed the Lady Plainsmen the power they had at the net, slamming balls at the Perkins County defense and strategically finding the weaknesses and holes.

Although Perkins County was hammered by the Indians’ hitters and had difficulty running a full offense, they continued to fight and play with energy and enthusiasm throughout the game.

“I thought the girls played their hearts out tonight,” said Head Coach Monica Cole. “Coming in against Ogallala I don’t think that anyone expected us to play with them to ten points and even have the lead at one point early on in the second set.”

The Lady Plainsmen had some shining moments as the back row fought to dig up what Ogallala hit at them. They were also able to capitalize on a handful of the Indians’ mistakes, particularly in the second set of the match.

Unfortunately, the team was also plagued by some miscommunication errors and some weak coverage that Ogallala took full advantage of.

However, despite the loss, the Perkins County gym was alive with excitement as the team fought against the Indians. The Lady Plainsmen seemed to click in a way that hasn’t been seen this season, their hard work finally paying off and showing on the court come game time.

“Even though going away with a loss, we fought hard and did some great things tonight. We were really proud of the girls and their efforts,” Cole said.

Cole was grateful to the fans and students who created such an intense and exciting atmosphere for them to play in and hopes the support continues.

The Lady Plainsmen were defeated by the Indians in three sets, 25-11, 25-12, 25-9.

Hallie Fisher: 2 solo blocks; Rylee Huff: 1 solo block, 1 assist, 1 dig; Juels Lyon: 3 digs; Samantha Patrick: 4 digs; Makenzie Toner: 1 assist, 3 digs; Dani Burge: 1 kill, 3 solo blocks, 7 digs; Bella Fraizer: 2 kills, 9 digs.
