PC Volleyball team preparing for Longhorn rematch

The Perkins County Lady Plainsmen volleyball team wrapped up September with three games, bringing their current season record to 3-14.

On Tuesday, Sept. 25, the Lady Plainsmen battled the Chase County Longhorns and the Gothenburg Swedes in a triangular on their home court.

Thursday, Sept. 27, Perkins County hosted another home game against the Sedgwick County, Colorado Cougars.

Chase County

The home conference match against the Chase County Longhorns proved a challenging one for the Lady Plainsmen.

Although Perkins County began the game with high energy and good communication, they couldn’t keep up with the Longhorns who continued to rack up points.

Defensively, the Lady Plainsmen struggled at the net with their blocking as well as on-serve receive.

The Longhorns defeated the Lady Plainsmen in two sets, 25-12, 25-8.

Gothenburg

In their second game of triangular play, the Lady Plainsmen faced the Gothenburg Swedes for the second time this season.

Again, Perkins County had an energetic start, but quickly fell behind as they were hammered by the Swedes hitters.

The Swedes strong net play was too much for the Perkins County defense who struggled with blocks and coverage.

The Lady Plainsmen also fought during serve receive and struggled to get a solid offense going against Gothenburg.

The Swedes defeated Perkins County in two sets, 25-10, 25-7.

Sedgwick County

Head Coach Monica Cole said her team faced a hard week with a tough triangular on Tuesday, followed by a quick turnaround to play the Cougars on Thursday.

The Lady Plainsmen fought hard against Sedgwick County with some strong net play, getting their hitters set up for several kills against the Cougars.

They also made some great plays with defensive digs as well as with their serve receive efforts, but just couldn’t keep up against the Cougars who pulled away for the win in each set of the match.

The Cougars defeated Perkins County in three sets, 25-18, 25-12, 25-13.

Despite the demands Perkins County has faced with multiple games the last several weeks, Cole continues to see positive improvements from her team and praises their efforts and persistence.

“We are still growing and learning from our mistakes and unforced errors,” she said.

As the team moves closer to SPVA, Cole is hoping the team will reach their peak and be ready to bring a strong, solid game to the court come tournament time.
