Emilio Perez wrestles his way to first at last week’s Chase County Invite. Perez earned another gold medal at this week’s Mullen Invite.

PC wrestlers claim silver at Mullen

Wood, Perez and Pouk take first

Perkins County wrestlers brought home the silver with 107.5 points from Mullen’s invitational on Saturday, Jan. 19 with eight wrestlers medaling.

Seniors Beau Wood and Emilio Perez and Freshman Colton Pouk claimed golds.

Pinning all three of his opponents in the 182-pound division, Wood remains undefeated at 15-0.

After a slow start this season due to an injury, Perez hasn’t held back. He pinned his four opponents to take first in the 285-pound division, maintaining one loss on his record at 10-1.

Colton Pouk grabbed his first gold of the season by pinning his two opponents in the 120-pound division.

Trye Hickey and Brandon Knoles both went 3-2 to place third in the 132-pound and 220-pound divisions respectively.

Jace Wid, Deitrick Bruggeman and Austin Meyer placed fourth.

Head Coach Tanner Collins promised the team if they placed first or second he would do a cartwheel on the mats after the meet. He delivered on that promise.

Collins said he is very happy with how the team ended up on Saturday.

“However, there are still some very winnable matches that we left out there. We are getting better, definitely, but we still need to work on finishing guys off at the end of a tough match,” he said.
