PC wrestlers take fifth in Chase County

Knoles and Perez claim first

Perkins County claimed fifth place at the Chase County Invite on Saturday, Jan. 12 after all five varsity wrestlers placed.

“I’m just very proud of the way our guys wrestled. We are taking steps in the right direction as a program,” said Head Coach Tanner Collins.

With many out due to sickness and injuries, he said it would have been cool to see where they would have ended up if they had the entire team there.

Brandon Knoles took first in the 220-pound division, pinning three opponents and winning the championship match by major decision, 15-3, against Colt Rodgers of Bridgeport, who he had previously pinned in Round 3.

Emilio Perez was back in action after dealing with an injury this season, pinning three of his four opponents in under a minute and claiming first in the 285-pound division.

Deitrik Brueggeman, Jace Wid, and Trye Hickey each went 3-2 to take third, fourth and fifth respectively in their weight classes.

Next action

The team will compete at the Mullen Invite this Saturday, Jan. 19, starting at 9:30 a.m.
