Perkins County Lady Plainsmen basketball begins this week

Eleven girls are suiting up to kick off the basketball season for Perkins County this Thursday when the Lady Plainsmen host Hershey at 5 p.m.

Second year Head Coach Lance Steffen says their weakness this season will be the low number of participants, but he is excited about the leadership from the senior class, and said the number of freshmen has him looking forward to the future of the team.

Assisting Steffen will be Mike Mayer, who has been with the team for 13 years. Also assisting is high school science teacher, Katie Geitz.

The Lady Plainsmen ended the season last year with a 2-19 record. “We need to do a better job of defending the whole court and taking care of the ball. We had way too many turnovers last year to be successful and it showed,” Steffen said, adding, “The greatest challenge to us will be to leap the mental hurdle and choose to get better each day. We need to especially pay attention to detail to improve.”
