The Wallace Cross Country athletes joined athletes from across the area at the Imperial Cross country meet Thursday. All the athletes were grateful for the organizers of the meet moving up the time from the afternoon to the morning so that they didn’t have to run in the heat of the day.

The men’s race boasted the participation of the top three state ranked cross country runners, Trey Robertson of Wallace, Jarrett Miles of North Platte St. Pats and Mason McGreer of Perkins County. As anticipated, the race came down to a dash to the finish line with Trey Robertson finishing with a time of 16:26.70, which was a personal record and a new school record, and Jarett Miles coming in on his heals with a time of 16:27.50. Mason McGreer earned third with his time of 17:07.70. Fourth place led the rest of the runners almost a minute behind McGreer. Wallace’s Ryun Sheets bested his personal record of 22:39 with a finishing time of 21:13.

The Wallace women also enjoyed success. All the runners earned medals placing in the top 15 runners. Ryleigh Hanson earned 12th place with a time of 23:16.20. Dajana Garrison ran her way to seventh place with her personal best time of 22:03.90. Ashley Robertson led the Wallace women with a fourth place finish with a time of 21:35.50. This time is a personal record beating her past best of last year 22:02 and the old school record of 21:37.

Coach Madisen Messersmith says the Wallace athletes are looking forward to their next meet in Arapahoe on Thursday with confidence in the times they’re running and the places they’re earning.
