Casey Hanson makes his read whether to pitch or keep the ball. He kept the ball and scored the Plainsmen’s first touchdown, one of four for Hanson on the night.

Plainsmen 2-0 in district with 70-28 win

Perkins County’s Plainsmen football team notched their fourth win of the season Friday with a 70-28 victory over winless Kimball at Haenfler Field.

These kids have paid their dues, especially the juniors, Coach Tanner Collins said this week.

Four wins in a season eclipses the three total wins the juniors experienced as freshmen and sophomores.

Collins said his team and the program is on the right track. They proved it again Friday with a dominating win over Kimball to move to 2-0 in the district and 4-1 on the season.

The Plainsmen were without another starter Friday. Erik Snyder is out for the season after suffering a broken wrist against Bayard.

He joins Austin Meyer on the sideline who suffered a season-ending knee injury against Dundy County Stratton.

At Bayard, starting quarterback Triston Hite suffered a dislocated finger. He was still able to play on the defensive side of the ball Friday and came down with his seventh interception of the season.

Collins called on sophomore Casey Hanson to handle the signal calling duties. The offense didn’t miss a beat, with Hanson running for 161 yards  and four touchdowns on 18 carries.

Ethan Sihm and Nolan Foster took over the halfback duties with some tough running, Collins noted.

Foster finished with 120 yards on 10 carries and scored three touchdowns. Sihm picked up 69 yards on nine carries with one touchdown.

All totalled, the Plainsmen rushed for 337 yards and never even went to the air.

Hemingford Friday

The Plainsmen will travel to Hemingford Friday for another district match up.

Hemingford stands at 3-2 after falling to Sutherland 42-8.

Collins said Hemingford likes to play power football and will run the ball most of the night.

Game time there is set for 6 p.m. MT.
