Plainsmen junior Tanner Burge takes a 34-yard pass from Charlie Johnson into the end zone to score for Perkins County against the Sutherland Sailors on Friday, Oct. 13.

Plainsmen at 5-2 with 44-18 win over Sutherland

Perkins County’s Plainsmen continued their drive to the D1 playoffs Friday with a 44-18 win over D1-10 district foe Sutherland.

The Plainsmen will travel west Friday to face 1-6 Morrill to complete the regular season.

While Hemingford has the district championship wrapped up, their game with Dundy County Stratton could still affect seeding for the 16-team D1 west bracket.

Coach Lance Steffen said a Hemingford win would likely give the Plainsmen the seventh or eighth seed. That would mean a home game in the first round.

However, if DCS beats Hemingford, it could put the Plainsmen on the road when playoffs open next Thursday, Oct. 26.

Steffen said the Plainsmen still have some of their own business to take care at Morrill. The rest will sort itself out after Friday night’s games across the state.
