Plainsmen compete in Ed Moore Invitational

Perkins County’s track teams faced some competition from a number of larger schools at the Ed Moore Invitational at Ogallala Saturday.

Track Coach Shane Hite said the field of larger schools would give him a good idea of where his team stood this early in the season.

Normally, the Plainsmen open the season with the E. Lee Todd Invitational on their home track. However, conflicts with the Easter holiday forced Perkins County to cancel this year’s invitational.

As a result, the Plainsmen took part in the Ogallala meet.

The teams will get some time to work on getting in better shape and honing their events since they will be idle until April 12.

That’s when they will travel to Chappell for the Creek Valley twilight meet.

Colton Pouk earned the best finish on the boys’ side with a third place finish in the 800.

Casey Hanson placed in the 100 and triple jump with Triston Hite and Hunter Garner taking medals in the pole vault and high jump respectively.

The 4x100 and 4x400 relayteams placed fifth and seventh respectively.

In girls competition, Kailee Potts finished with a second place effort in the 100 meter hurdles.

Hallie Fisher took seventh in the 100 hurdles and an eighth place finish in the 300 hurdles.

Autumn Anderson took sixth in the triple jump to round out the individual scoring.

Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays finished eighth.
