Perkins County Cross Country Team traveled to Chase County, Nebraska on September 11. With cooperative weather, there were several medalists on both teams. “You cannot help but get a little excited when a runner gets to race at about 70 degrees and overcast weather. Conditions were great for racing in Chase County,” said Head Coach Tristen Stephenson.
Girls
The Lady Plainsmen Placed second as a team overall, just behind the host Chase County. Madison Potts finished fourth running a time of 21 minutes and 19 seconds. Savannah Miller came in seventh, running a time of 21 minutes 46 seconds. Haylea McGreer finished in eleventh place with a time of 22 minutes 23 seconds. “The girls fought hard, also nearly all running personal bests or close to them, ultimately earning 2nd place as a team. With tough competition outside of our district and class, I was impressed with their willingness to compete. I think there is still some untapped potential there, and I am looking forward to what the rest of the season holds!” Stephenson said.
Boys
Plainsmen boys pushed to earn the first place title. Elijah Goodell won the race with a time of 15 minutes 53 seconds. Behind him was Ethan Swesey in sixth place running a time of 17 minutes 47 seconds. Logan Barry finished in eleventh place racing to earn a time of 18 minutes 35 seconds. “The boys were excellent, winning the meet as a team with most running personal bests or close to it. I am happy to see the times where they are” commented Stephenson.
