The Perkins County boys basketball team dropped two games last week as the Plainsmen faced Bridgeport and Chase County in road contests.

KIMBALL

Perkins County opened the week with a 61-28 loss to the Bridgeport Bulldogs on January 20 in Kimball. Ethan Swesey led the Plainsmen with seven points, while Myles Bishop grabbed nine rebounds.

Head coach Corey Potts said the Plainsmen were competitive early before Bridgeport pulled away.

“We stayed with them the first half and didn’t really shoot the ball very well,” Potts said. “Bridgeport has a lot of weapons and their defense sped us up on offense, getting us out of rhythm. In the end they started making shots and wore us down.”

CHASE COUNTY

The Plainsmen returned to action on January 22 against the Chase County Longhorns, falling 51-29. Perkins County trailed 14-5 after the first quarter and 28-18 at halftime. Chase County outscored the Plainsmen 11-4 in the third quarter and held on with a 12-7 advantage in the fourth.

Rylee Schrotberger paced Perkins County with 10 points. Alex Cole finished with eight rebounds.

“We got off to a slow start and Chase County came out knocking shots down,” Potts said. “It just seemed like we couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end of the floor. We just weren’t able to create a run to bring us back in the game. This loss was on me. We are digging into our offense and going to revamp so the boys can have success on the offensive end of the floor.”

NEXT ACTION

The Plainsmen are scheduled to host Holyoke on January 27. Results from that game will appear in the next edition of the Grant Tribune-Sentinel. Perkins County will then travel to Sedgwick High School on January 29 to face Sedgwick County.
