Plainsmen fall to Panthers in season opener

Opening week for the Plainsmen was cut short when a winter storm cancelled the first home games of the season on Friday night.

The cancelation came after Thursday night's game in Hershey saw the boys fall to the Panthers.

Hershey

The Plainsmen traveled to Hershey on Thursday, Nov. 29 to take on the Hershey Panthers in their season opener.

During the first period seniors Spencer Ross and Aaron Fay kept the Plainsmen up with Hershey, Ross with a basket and two free shots, and Fay with two 3-pointers and a free shot left PC trailing 16-11 going into the second.

Hershey put up 16 in the second period while Perkins County saw junior Alex Patrick put up their only seven points of the quarter. Half-time score had Hershey up 32-18.

Patrick and Ross found the net again in the third, but the Panthers managed to pull further ahead scoring 12 points, leaving PC trailing by 20.

Fay opened the fourth with a triple and was followed by Ross who added one to the bucket before Hershey drew a foul and hit two free shots.

Freshman Hayden Foster also drew a foul and put up his two points of the game from the free throw line. Not giving up the fight till the very end, Fay hit the basket and then later had a steal that found the net, but ultimately it wasn’t enough and PC fell to Hershey 61-35.

Fay was the top scorer of the game and earned a double double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
