The SPVA Tournament was held on Friday April 30 in Bridgeport.

Perkins County was one of seven schools present.

Coach Rich Borman said he was impressed with the putting his team performed at the meet, “we had our best day putting by far this year. Storm and Kyle averaged less than 2 putts per hole, which is our goal and our team average was 2.14!,” he said.

Despite playing on what he described as one of the toughest courses they’ve faced, Borman said the team moral was a positive take-away.

“I was pleased with our players’ positive attitudes and display of good character, even though they each experienced some tough holes. They really want to work hard and have focused on areas to improve so it motivates me to provide specific practice drills to help them get better and gain more confidence, like they have with their putting,” Borman said.

Will Long was the top scorer for the Plainsmen on Friday. Long took 55 strokes on the front nine, and followed with 63 on the back for a day score of 118.

Storm Peterson was two strokes behind Long, with a final score of 120, and Ian Picquet following him for third on the team with a total of 122 strokes for the day. Eli Busick contributed to the team with a score of 123, and Kyle Feureborn finished after 129 strokes.

“We gave away too many penalty strokes and were not always utilizing the best course management strategies,” Borman said of the day overall.

The team placed sixth out of the seven teams in the tournament, though Kimball did not have enough players to make a team for “no team score.”

“I was disappointed with the overall team results but I have great confidence that these fine young men are on the right track,” Borman said, adding “once our players eliminate the blow up holes and implement some better strategies, their scores will improve dramatically.”
