The Perkins County Plainsmen boys basketball team picked up two strong wins last week, defeating the Maxwell Wildcats on the road before returning home to take down the Southwest Roughriders.
Maxwell
Perkins County traveled to Maxwell High School on February 3 and came away with a convincing 62–44 victory over the Wildcats. The Plainsmen set the tone offensively early and maintained control throughout the contest.
Colton Kroeker led the Plainsmen with 17 points, pacing a balanced scoring effort. Myles Bishop was dominant on the boards, pulling down 13 rebounds, while Alex Cole contributed six assists and added three steals on the defensive end.
Head coach Corey Potts was pleased with the team’s shooting performance and late-game execution.
“Once again we shot the ball very well in this game. It’s fun to see the boys reap the benefits of all the shooting drills we do in practice. Our defense was good in spurts but enough to get the job done. Down the stretch, the boys kept control of the boards and knocking down shots to get the win,” said Potts.
SOUTHWEST
The Plainsmen followed up that road win with a home game against the Southwest Roughriders on February 5 at Perkins County High School. Perkins County continued its strong offensive play, earning a 72–58 victory.
Colton Kroeker had a standout performance, finishing with 25 points and consistently creating scoring opportunities. Cade Kroeker connected on four three-pointers, while Alex Cole and Rylee Schrotberger provided solid play around the rim.
Coach Potts highlighted the team’s overall effort and offensive rhythm.
“I was very proud of the effort our boys showed up and played with. It was a great team effort on both ends of the floor. Our offense is really clicking right now, putting 72 points up is evidence of how well the boys are shooting. Colton Kroeker had 25 points and showed what a threat he is with the ball in his hands. Cade Kroeker also shot the ball really well with 4 three pointers, while Alex Cole and Rylee Schrotberger gave us some really nice play at the rim,” Potts said.
With the two wins, the Perkins County Plainsmen improve their record to 9–9 on the season.
