Plainsmen prepare for first official meet at Ogallala

Perkins County kicked off their track season on Thursday, March 21 with a pre-season meet at home.  

The annual meet is more of a practice meet to see where the athletes are and to get marks for the next meet. No medals are awarded.

Head Coach Shayne Hite said the team was further along than he thought they would be after practicing indoors for two weeks straight. 

“We definitely are not in shape yet or strong enough. Field events are where I feel we are the furthest behind,” he said. 

Evan Sestak took first in the high jump at 6-02 and second in both the 110 and  300 hurdles with times of 16.69 and 43.86 respectively. 

Matthew Hahn took first in the one-mile with 5:06, followed by Caleb Lagler 30 seconds later for third. 

Taking first in the two-mile was Jaden Dietlein with 11:31, followed by third-place finisher Caden Waitley with 11:33. 

Alex Patrick took second in both the 100 (11.88) and 200 (23.77). 

Hahn, Dietlein, Waitley and Colton Pouk took first in the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:06. The 4x100 and 4x400 relays finished third. 

Emilio Perez took third in the discus with a throw of 112-06.

For the girls, Hailey Snyder got second in the triple jump with a jump of 31 feet even. 

Samantha Patrick, Hannah Kempf, Kiara Schulze and Rylee Huff placed second in the 4x 100 relay and Snyder, Kempf, Huff and Schulze placed second in the 4x400. See below for other PC placers and full results.

Next action

The Ogallala meet will be held Saturday, March 30. Field events will begin at 10 a.m. and track events will begin at 11:30 with girls running first.

Discus events are held at Collister Park, one block east and south behind the rec center.
