Plainsmen return to football field Friday

Members of the Perkins County Plainsmen football team will return to the field Friday.

The Plainsmen will travel to Kimball for a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Last week, the Plainsmen were forced to forfeit their homecoming game with Morrill due to a lack of personnel.

A number of players suffered injuries, some season-ending, in the Hitchcock County game Sept. 7.

Coach Jonathan Hunt said 10 “healthy” members of the team will take the field at Kimball.

He said they had nine to 10 players last week but at least four weren’t anywhere close to 100 percent.

A week made the difference to get his team back on the field.

Jaxon Livermore will be the lone senior playing. He will be joined by juniors Alex Patrick and Matt McClung, sophomore Brandon Knoles and six of the nine freshmen on the team.

The Plainsmen began the season with 16 players.

Hunt said it will be good to have the upperclassmen leadership of Livermore, Patrick and McClung going into the game.

Friday’s game will be a little different, being played in the early afternoon.

But the Plainsmen are no stranger to day games, having played playoff games under the sun over the past three seasons.
