Plainsmen roll Bayard for third win
The Perkins County Plainsmen rolled to their third win of the season at Bayard Friday with a convincing 43-8 win over the Tigers.
But the win could prove costly in terms of injuries. Quarterback Triston Hite left the game in the second half with a dislocated finger after throwing four touchdowns, running for another and kicking five extra points.
Junior Erik Snyder suffered a wrist injury as well.
Coach Tanner Collins said both are seeing doctors this week to determine the extent of the injuries.
He added end Hunter Garner was also hurt but could be ready for this week’s home game with Kimball.
These injuries come on the heels of the news that sophomore lineman Ashton Meyer suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Dundy County Stratton game.
Collins said they are preparing for the Kimball game as if Hite and Snyder will not be available.
Kimball is winless in four starts, losing by an average of more than 45 points while averaging just more than a touchdown offensively.
It’s still one of those games where the team can’t take a win for granted.
Friday’s win improved the Plainsmen’s record to 3-1.
Collins said the Plainsmen still have some areas to clean up, noting he saw some mistakes that shouldn’t be happening halfway into the season.
For instance, the Plainsmen had a touchdown nullified early on due to a penalty.
A bright spot was the team’s defensive performance. They played really well, Collins said.
The varsity did not allow a touchdown and stopped several fourth-down conversions including one of the Plainsmen’s 5 yard line.
Bayard went man-to-man coverage against the pass and brought everyone else, Collins said. As a result, Hite and his receivers turned in some big plays.
