Plainsmen stun undefeated Arapahoe Friday night

The Perkins County Plainsmen stunned the undefeated Arapahoe Warriors in the D1 playoffs Friday night. The Plainsmen rallied from a two-touchdown deficit early second half to win 37-28.

The 7-2 Plainsmen will play host to 8-1 Hitchcock County next Friday.

The Plainsmen capitalized on big plays both offensively and defensively en route to the win.

Their first touchdown of the second half came on a 34-yard touchdown run by Casey Hanson. It was set up by a 26-yard completion from quarterback Triston Hite to receiver Jeb Kohl.

On their next possession, the Plainsmen capitalized on an interference call, keeping the drive alive. Hite then hit Hanson for 17 to take the ball to the Arapahoe 3.

Hite’s subsequent sneak and PAT kick put the Plainsmen up 23-20 with 3:20 left in the third quarter. They would never trail again.

With the Warriors driving into Plainsmen territory, Kohl picked off an Arapahoe aerial at the Plainsmen 22.

On the very next play, Hanson broke loose for 58 yards, and with a Hite kick, the Plainsmen went up 30-20 just as the fourth quarter began.

With 5:28, Araphoe completed a 65-yard drive, aided by a successful fake punt, to pull with two, 30-28, with 5:28 left.

The Plainsmen added some insurance on a 57-yard touchdown with 2:59 left for a 37-28 lead.

Hanson locked up the win for the Plainsmen with an interception with 2:08, allowing Hite and crew to run the clock out.
