Plainsmen take fourth at DCS invite

With two invites under their belts, the Perkins County Golf team is looking ahead to Thursday when they will head to the Hershey invite for a 9 a.m. tee-time.

On Wednesday, March 31 the team participated in a 9-hole meet at Creek Valley, as their first invite of the season, and last week on April 6 they attended the DCS invite.

Will Long had the best score at the Creek Valley Duel with a total of 58 strokes. Storm Peterson only trailed Long by two strokes, earning a 60 for the day.  Other team members and their scores at Creek Valley were: Ian Picquet, 63; Keegan Sims, 65; Kyle Feuerborn, 66; Eli Busick, 69; Daniel Hampton, 72; Tyler Tucker, 80.

At the Dundy County Stratton Invite, the Plainsmen took 4th place out of eight teams with a team score of 452.

Individually, Long took seventh place, with a day total of 103.

Peterson ended the day with 110 strokes, enough to earn him an 11th place medal.  As for the JV team, Eli Busick took second place with a score of 63 on nine holes.

Other team members and their scores at Dundy County Stratton were: Picquet, 114; Feueborn, 125; Keegan Sims, 171.

Head coach Rich Borman said he was pleasantly surprised with the team results, being that the team is inexperienced and the conditions were extremely difficult.

“Our putting is improving as is our short game around the greens, which helped our scoring.  We have not had a bunch of time to practice as we have been limited by weather and been practicing a lot indoors. All the players see opportunities to really lower scores by focusing on our course management and shoring up some of the fundamentals, like alignment,” Borman said.
