Plainsmen take third at SPVA

The Plainsmen and their head Coach Shawn Cole placed third in the South Platte Valley Association (SPVA) tournament last week.

Three games, two wins and third place later the Plainsmen look ahead to this week, back to regular game action with a 9-5 record.

KIMBALL

Tuesday, Jan. 16 saw Kimball at PC in the first round of the SPVA tourney. The Longhorns did get the first basket in, but the Plainsmen had the answer and then some, which included an and one from Tyson Patrick and one in the bucket from Junior Aaron Fay. By the end of the first quarter PC had the lead with 15-7 on the board.

Senior Michael Beck put three up from the free throw line, and Charlie Johnson added a basket for a five point PC run kicking off the second. Kimball hit the net again but Josh Johnston and Spencer Ross each added two points before halftime for the Plainsmen who maintained the lead, now 24-19.

The Plainsmen defense allowed just 11 Longhorn points in the third, while the offense put up 16 that included a shot from Tanner Burge and a triple pointer from Beck, and they held on to their lead, now 10 points ahead.
