Plainsmen team takes first at Cambridge

Thelander and Woodmancy place top five individually

The first invite for the Plainsmen started the season off on a high note, as the boys’ team brought home a first place victory from Cambridge.

March 27 saw Coach Troy Kemling and the PC team take on 14 other teams and finish with a 372.

“We played well enough to tie St. Pat’s for first and then won in a team playoff by one stroke. The narrow win in the playoff was due to a couple of our guys making putts, whereas St. Pats did not,” Kemling said.

The St. Pats team came in second place, and Franklin came in third with 381.

PC junior Carson Thelander shot an 85, a score that placed him third individually.

Kemling said, “Carson played consistently all day long but his short game carried the day with several great chips.”

Jacob Woodmancy was one stroke behind, and finished fourth individually with an 86.

Senior Aaron Fay had 53 strokes on the front and 42 on the back, for a total of 95. Fay earned 12th place.

“I thought each golfer was showing fatigue by the end of the round which is due to lack of practice holes played leading up to this meet. Our fitness will only improve here as the season progresses,” Coach Kemling added.

Other participants for PC included Kaden Smith who shot a 106 and Deitrick Bruggeman who finished with 160.

“I felt like we won the lottery with the beautiful day the guys enjoyed. The boys really like the challenge of this golf course and I thought we played well, considering the lack of quality practice days we had,” Kemling said.
