Plainsmen Volleyball girls ready to compete

The Perkins County volleyball team is sharpening their skills as the new season approaches, with early practices focused on the fundamentals. “Practices are going good so far,” said head coach Monica Cole. “We have been hammering out fundamentals so that when we’re ready to play we can just get to the court and not have to think so much about that part—just do.”

One of the defining qualities of this year’s squad is their spirit. Cole said, “One of our biggest strengths this year is compassion for the game and the willingness to compete.” That drive will be central as the Plainsmen work to reach their goals.

Players have set personal objectives for themselves, while the team’s broader mission is rooted in unity and integrity. “One of the team goals is to stay united and have good character always,” said Cole.

As with every season, building the right lineup will take time. “It’s always a challenge to find the exact rotation that is going to make the team successful,” Cole said. “Mixing things up to find that good chemistry that is going to work together on the court is always the hardest. We’re just hoping that the girls can accept the roles they are given so that everyone on the team can be successful.”

Fans can expect plenty of excitement once the Plainsmen hit the court. “They can expect to see these girls compete every time they step out onto the court,” said Cole. “They are a fun bunch to watch.”

Their first game is a scrimmage on August 21, at McCook High School.
