School Records Shattered at Best of Midwest and DCS Twilight Meets

The Perkins County Plainsmen competed at two track meets since the last issue of the Grant Tribune. First, they gave their all in the “Best of the Midwest” meet in Sutherland, NE. The meet took place on May 6, 2025. Just three days later on May 9, 2025, Plainsmen competed at the “DCS Twilight” track meet at Dundy County High School. 

Best of the Midwest

Numerous records were broken at this meet by both boys and girls teams. The gentlemen had 10 personal records and 8 meet and/ or school records. The ladies had 5 personal records and 1 school record. “We had a great day at the BOMW track meet. Weather was perfect for running. Had several make the podium. You had to be in the top 3 to make the podium,” said Head Coach Shayne Hite. 

Boys

Ryder Potts, once again, earned points for the team in the running events. He placed second in the 400 meter race. He also broke the school record with a time of 50.39 seconds. The record was previously held by Josh Wall in 2008. 

Mason McGreer also earned several running points for his team. He earned first place in the 1600 meter race breaking a school and meet record that was held by him. 

In the 3200 meter race Elijah Goodell won first, breaking his previous school and meet record. . Ethan Swesey earned fourth in the same race.  PCS entered a team into the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Colton Kroeker, Rylee Schrotberger, Brock Tines, and Potts won first place in this event. The team broke the school record from 2017. PCS also entered a team into the 4x800 meter relay. Team of Goodell, Tines, Schrotberer, and McGreer won another first place medal as well as broke the meet and school record that was held by them. 

Girls

Libby Cole ran to earn fifth place in the Women’s 400 meter race.

Madison Potts broke a school record, previously held by her, in the 3200 meter race, setting her in third place. 

In the 300 meter hurdles, Ella Homan placed third. 

Team of Cole, Ava Seger, Haylea McGreer, and Homan placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay.  Kam Klockman tied for second in the high jump. 

DCS Twilight

Several records were broken in this meet as well. The ladies team won second place, while the boys team earned third. “We backed down several of our runners. Most of them only doing 1 or 2 running events to help let the legs recover for next week. We had 3 meets this week so we had to make sure we didn’t do too much,” said Coach Hite. 

Boys

In the 200 meter race, Carson Green earned fifth place. 

Ryder Potts won first place in the 400 meter race achieving another record, followed by Colton Kroeker in fourth. 

Brock Tines placed second in the 800 meter race. Ethan Swesey placed fourth and behind him was Cooper Kroeker in fifth. 

Elijah Goodell won first in the 1600 meter race, breaking his record once again. 

Mason McGreer was one of two competitors who ran in the 3200 meter race. He won first place. 

The team of Green, Alex Cole, Swesey and Luke Minster finished in third place in the 4x400 meter relay. 

In the 4x800 meter relay, Goodell, Tines, Rylee Schrotberger, and McGreer won first place. 

Preston Schwanebeck threw the shot put for fourth place. Just behind him in fifth place was Alec Reese. 

Colson Uehling earned fifth place in the pole vault. 

Girls

Ava Seger won fourth place in the 100 meter race. 

Libby Cole won fourth place in the 400 meter race. Just behind her in fifth place was Ava Seger.

In the 1600 meter race, Madison Potts won first place. 

Savannah Miller placed third in the 3200 meter race. 

In the hurdle events, Ella Homan won first place in the 100 meter hurdles as well as the 300 meter hurdles. Kam Klockman placed fifth in the 300 meter hurdles. 

The team of Zoe Hansen, Morgan Day, Tatum Lee, and Addison York ran to earn fifth place in the 4x100 meter relay. 

In the 4x400 meter relay, Hannah Bishop, Emily Cornelius, York, and Olivia Gengenbach won fourth place.  

In the 4x800 meter relay, Potts, Haylea McGreer, Bishop, and Cornelius finished in third place. 

Jacqueline Gloy earned second place in the shot put. She also won fifth place in discus.  Klockman jumped to achieve second place in high jump.  Haylea McGreer won fifth place in the Pole Vault.
