Sestak breaks high jump record at pre-season meet

Perkins County kicked off their track season on Thursday, March 22 with a pre-season meet at home.  

Coach Shayne Hite said no team scores were kept and no medals were given. It was just a practice meet to see where the athletes were and to get marks for the next meet.

He said they need to work on getting into shape as the season progresses.

Evan Sestak took first in the high jump at 6-2, breaking the school record of 6-0 set by Josh Wall in 2008.

Caden Waitley and Jaden Dietlien took first in the 800 and 3200 respectively.

Others placing in the top three for the boys included Matthew Hahn, second in the 1600; Alex Patrick, third in the 200; Jarin Tines, third in the 3200; and Emilio Perez, third in the shotput. The 4x800 relay team took second and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams took third.

Hailey Snyder took first in the triple jump and the girls 4x100 weights relay took second. 

Next action

The Ogallala meet previously scheduled for Thursday, March 29 was moved up to Wednesday, March 28 at 9:30 a.m. due to anticipated weather.

There will be no preliminaries.
