SPVA competition sees Lady Plainsmen earn third win of the season

Seven teams battled it out in the 2019 SPVA conference last week, and the Lady Plainsmen found themselves in sixth place after their three games in the tournament.

The No. 7 seeded PC girls faced the No. 2 seed Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs in the first round of action and fell 22-59. 

Game 5 saw the PC girls take on the Lady Sailors from Sutherland and come out with a win. 

The win gives the girls their third of the season, a feat not seen by the Lady Plainsmen in several years.

In the fight for fifth place, the PC girls played Kimball and ultimately fell 61-26, giving them sixth place in the tournament. 

Chase County and Bridgeport fought for third, with Chase County coming out on top 50-38, and the NP St. Pat girls took the SPVA championship when they beat Hershey 50-39.

Sutherland

Friday, Jan. 18 saw the Lady Plainsmen head back to North Platte for a game that would either end their run in the SPVA tournament, or send them back for the chance to take fifth place.  

They played the Sutherland Sailors and the game was a close match.  

During the first period, PC was able to outscore the Lady Sailors by one, 6-5.

Both teams managed to put up 11 points in the second giving the Lady Plainsmen the one point lead at half time, 17-16.

Sutherland came up with 12 in the third, while PC put up 11 taking the game into the fourth at a tie, 28-28.

The Lady Plainsmen defense held the Lady Sailors to just one point in the fourth, while the offense added nine points to PC’s board. 

The Lady Plainsmen took the win, 37-29, their third win of the season. 

Kimball

In the battle for fifth place in the girls SPVA tournament on Jan. 19, the Lady Plainsmen went back to North Platte for the final time to play the Kimball Lady Longhorns.

The Longhorns took the lead in the first with an 18-8 deficit, and by half time had the lead over PC 24-17.

Kimball put up 20 in the third while holding PC to just 7, and in the fourth, added 17 while holding PC to two. 

Kimball took the win over PC 61-21, earning them fifth overall.

Next action

Holyoke came to town on Tuesday night, and the Lady Plainsmen competed against the Lady Dragons.

Thursday night will see the PC teams host Sedgwick County before hosting  Maxwell next Tuesday, Jan. 29.
