Stats compiled for Plainsmen football season

The final stats have been compiled for the Perkins County Plainsmen’s 2018 football campaign. 

The Plainsmen finished the season with 1,860 yards of total offense behind a young offensive line. 

Of those, 1,580 yards came on the ground with 280 in the air.

Junior running back Alex Patrick led that rushing attack, eclipsing the 1,000-yard plateau, with 1,130 yards on 159 carries. 

He averaged 7.1 yards per carry and 161.4 yards per game. He accounted for 17 touchdowns rushing, with a long of 75 yards.

He also returned one of the 14 kickoffs he took for a touchdown. 

Triston Hite directed the offense at quarterback. Patrick filled in one game when Hite was out due to concussion protocol. 

Hite threw the ball 48 times, completing 14 for 273 yards and five touchdowns against one interception. He finished with a 29 percent completion rate. 

His leading receiver was Jaxon Livermore with four catches for 74 yards. Patrick had four receptions as well, good for 52 yards while Tanner Burge caught two for 48 yards. 

On defense, Patrick, Matt McClung and Brandon Knoles anchored the teams efforts on that side of the ball. 

Patrick led the team with a total of 64 tackles, including 26 solos. McClung recorded 49 tackles, followed by Knoles with 42. Livermore recorded the most solos with 29. 

Looking forward

After the season, Coach Jonathan Hunt said he’s already looking forward to next year. 

The Plainsmen will return 13 players who saw lots of action this season. They started with just 16 and lost some during the season with injuries. 

As a result, a number of freshman and sophomores were pressed into duty.  but also gained some valuable experience going into next season. 

Hunt said the experience picked up by these young players will do nothing but help them in the future.

While the Plainsmen finish the year at 1-7, Hunt said his team persevered over many challenges throughout the season.
