Strong core of wrestlers coming back next year

Plainsmen Wrestling Coach Tanner Collins will lose three seniors to graduation but will return a strong core next year.

State qualifier Jace Wid, Kyler Bullock and Trye Hickey have completed their PCS wrestling careers.

Wid finished the season 21-5 including a state tournament appearance this year.

He missed several weeks of the season due to sickness and injury but recovered to qualify for state.

Collins said he will return seven wrestlers next season and hopes to pick up as many as three from the junior high ranks moving up into high school.

Five of eight wrestlers at districts made the heartbreak round with Wid and Junior Brandon Knoles qualifying for state.

Knoles led the wrestlers this year with a record of 43-12 and led the team in takedowns with 63, while winning 35 of his matches with falls.

Ashton Meyer, 31-19, finished with the second highest number of pins with 21.

Colton Pouk, 29-19, finished the season with 36 takedowns and 36 reversals.
