The Perkins County swim team’s 2022 season was a success, according to Coach Angela Gloy, who commented the team was the biggest this year than it has been for quite a while.

A total of 42 swimmers took part in 2022, compared to just 23 last year. Members range in age from young to old, with children younger than 8 able to participate up to 18, and categories for adults too.

“It’s a lot of fun for us as coaches to watch all of our swimmers,” Gloy said. “I’m incredibly proud of the new swimmers every year who make big technical gains and who tackle their first meet.”

Gloy commented she also enjoys watching the veteran swimmers who are all very proficient, but continue to work and excel in their individual races.

Coaches for 2022 were Gloy, Megan Hoff and Maddy Ingold

The season began in June with the team members swimming approximately three to four miles per week at practices, Monday through Thursday from 9-10 a.m. Competitions were held on Saturdays, with this year’s meets being in Holyoke, Grant, Imperial and Benkelman. The league championships were held at Southern Valley

Gloy said that although competition is obviously part of being on the team, the main focus for her is that the kids are having fun.

“We like to say that you don’t have to smile while you’re swimming, but I’m looking for one when you hop out of your race,” she said. “Our goal is to build stronger swimmers and have some fun along the way.”

Races during each meet included long free, backstroke, breaststroke, short free, individual medley and free relay.

Members of the 2022 swim team included the following: Emelia Hill, Viola Hill, Abby Dodson, Jordyn Tjaden, Cami Tjaden, Selah Miller, Cora Dodson, Kinley Richmond, Lila Hill, Carmi Regier, Jacob Hoff, Luke Minster, Caleb Hoff, Micah Hatcher, Mason Minster, Mya Deaver, Riggin Ketteler, Savannah Miller, Rally Ketteler, Kylie Golden, Macey Cole, Aliza Flaming, Emma Flaming, Abby Gengenbach, Bella Gengenbach, Olivia Gengenbach, Grant Gloy, Paisley Holmstedt Reagan Holmstedt, Brooklynn Lampmann, Galia Lopez, Ivanna Lopez, Miroslava Lopez, Brighton Regier, Job Sainz, Lila Sainz, Lillian’s Stumpf, and Axel Vapenik.

Gloy said that anyone can participate on the swim team, with the only requirement being able to swim one lap unassisted. Those with questions about the team are asked to contact Gloy.
