Toner second at SPVA

The Perkins County wrestling team was shorthanded at this year’s SPVA tournament at Bridgeport, but the Plainsmen still had four of their six wrestlers competing for a medal.

Mason Toner, 126 lbs, placed second behind three straight wins before a loss by decision in the championship match. Head Coach Tanner Collins said Toner looked pretty good at the meet.

Brecken Uehling, 285 lbs., was fourth after two losses to the same competitor.

Brient Wood and Preston Schwanebeck faced off for fifth place in the 170 lb. bracket with Schwanebeck taking the 4-1 decision.

Schwanebeck has really come on as the season has progressed, Collins said.

Domanic Williams was 1-2 at 113 lbs. and Trevor Laber was 0-2 at 160 lbs.

Collins said the day went okay.

The Plainsmen were without Issiah Dunn and Juan Perez who were at their grandma’s funeral.

Up next

Districts will be Friday and Saturday in Sutherland and Collins said it will be a hard couple days, but he’s hopeful his team will wrestle tough.
