Waitley medals ninth at state cross country

Caden Waitley ended his junior cross country season with a ninth place medal at the state meet in Kearney on Oct. 20.

Junior Jaden Dietlein placed in the top 25 with a season personal best at 18:06.82

Nathan Kemling, the team’s only senior, ran his final cross country race with a career best of 18:34.61. His time at the first meet this season was 19:26. He improved his time at every meet except districts, where he was affected by sickness.

Coach Paula Wurst said they will miss Kemling’s leadership next season.

Sophomore Evan Sestak improved his course time from the UNK meet three weeks prior by a minute with a time of 19:51.47.

Jarin Tines also ran a course best and Wurst said Matthew Hahn ran strong as well.
