Trey Robertson hustles to break past Sutherland’s defense.

Wallace falls to Sutherland

The Wallace boys basketball team came into last Thursday’s game against Sutherland with a 4-0 record. Sutherland came in at 2-2 but handed the Wildcats their first loss, 53-46.

The Wildcats got off to a great start in the first quarter as Camdon McConnell drained back-to-back 3-pointers. Tertullian Nyamakope followed that up with a bucket off the glass to give the Cats a six-point lead.

Sutherland got a late 3-ball but Wallace still led 13-10 going into the second quarter.

Sutherland’s experience was evident in the second quarter as they settled in and made some big plays while playing tough defense.

They held Wallace to just seven points while putting up 17 points to take a 27-20 lead into halftime.

The third quarter ended up being a defensive battle with only 14 total points being scored. Sutherland added to their lead by scoring eight points while holding the Cats to six.

Things picked up in a big way during the final period with a lot more points going up on the scoreboard.

Kolton Hager went on a scoring rampage, scoring 15 of the team’s 20 points.

However, the Wildcats’ comeback effort of the Wildcats came up short, falling to Sutherland 53-46.

Hager led the Wildcats with 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Camden McConnell had 10 points, rebound, and 2 assists. Nyamakope scored five points, grabbed seven rebounds and added an assist and steal.

The scoring was rounded out with Tanner Finley, 4;  Ethan Bowlin 3; and Alec Messersmith with 2.

The Wildcats head into the holiday break with a 4 and 1 record. They hope to capitalize with back-to-back games during the Perkins County Holiday Tournament.

The tournament bracket appears  to the bottom left.
