The D6-4 district remains very competitive with three weeks left in the regular season.

The Wallace football team picked up a big district win with a 56-14 romp at Wauneta-Palisade Friday.

WP was first to get on the board, scoring on its first possession, but from there on it was all Wildcats.

Wallace needed only 10 plays to score three second quarter touchdowns. The Broncos took advantage of a Wallace penalty to score one in the second quarter, but the Wildcats took a 22-14 lead into the locker room.

Wallace Head Coach Eric Miller said he was very proud of his team’s effort and the way it became more physical as the game went on.

The Wildcats brought the hammer down on WP in the third quarter, both offensively and defensively.

Wallace scored on its first possession of the second half and used back-to-back Bronco turnovers to add another 12 points on the board. It only took six plays to score 20 points.

The Wildcats added touchdowns on their final drive of the third quarter and first drive of the fourth quarter to round out the 56-14 win.

“We blocked and ran the ball better than we have this year. We need to keep the momentum going for a tough rest of the schedule,” Miller said.

Wallace racked up 404 yards of offense, including 300 yards and five touchdowns on the ground by Carson Glunz.

Matt Lungrin completed 5-7 passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Each pass went to a different receiver, including touchdown catches by Glunz and Masen Messersmith.

The Wildcats took good care of the ball and didn’t have a turnover in the game.

Up next

Now 2-3, the Wildcats will look to even their record Friday against 1-4 Paxton.

Still ahead for Wallace is 3-2 Southwest on Oct. 14 and a trip to 5-0 Arthur County Oct. 21.

Arthur County is ranked second by the Omaha World Herald and is second in the point standings. With the top 16 seeds reaching the playoffs, Wallace will need to move up one spot from its current position.
