The Wallace cross country team continued to look strong in its second meet of the season.

Trey Robertson won the North Platte St. Pat’s Invite by 12 seconds over 2022 Class D 1,600-meter state champion Jarrett Miles of NPSP.

Wallace Head Coach Madisen Messersmith said Robertson’s pre-race goals were to run a sub-17 minute race and to win.

“He had kind of decided this was his opportunity to show everybody what he had to offer and make sure they knew he has big plans for the season. He started out the race in the front and stayed there pushing the pace,” Messersmith said, adding, she feels none of his goals needed any adjusting.

“He was right where he wanted to be,” she said.

Roberston’s time of 16:47 broke Jackson Sinsel’s school record of 19:35.

The Wildcat girls’ team continued to impress, as well. Going into the meet with the goal of bringing home a plaque, the team accomplished that with a second place finish.

Ashley Robertson placed fourth, Ryleigh Hanson was sixth and Dajana Garrison was eighth. Hanson and Garrison finished with personal best times.

The top of the girls’ race was close. Robertson was four seconds ahead of fifth place, while Hanson was only six seconds back and Garrison within 13 seconds of Robertson.

Messersmith credited Doniphan-Trumbull for bringing in a strong team. With runners placing first and second, DT beat Wallace by three points.
