Wildcats record 2-2 after 62-12 win

It was homecoming in Wallace last Friday and the Wildcats set out to make it a memorable one against the visiting Hitchcock County Falcons.

The warm Friday evening brought out a big crowd and Jared Sullivan wasted no time giving them something to cheer about. He started out by picking up the opening kickoff and returning it to mid field.

On the first play of the game, he launched the ball down field to Micah Swedberg who ran the ball in to the end zone for a quick score. Sullivan then proceeded to run the ball for the 2-point conversion and just that quick, Wallace had an 8-0 lead.

The Wildcat defense came out fired up as well. They held the Falcons to very little yardage on their opening drive and forced them to punt. A 14-yard return put the ball just past mid-field at the Falcons 36-yard line.

Sullivan once again went long to Swedberg on the opening play and the ball ended up on the 7-yard line. A couple of plays later, Sullivan got the ball across the goal line on a QB sneak. He again ran the ball for the extra 2 points and with 8:09 left on the clock, Wallace had a 16-0 lead.

Ty Maline buried the ball on each kick off and with good coverage, the Falcons were continually facing a long field. The Wildcat defense pretty much shut down all the Hitchcock County tried and they again, had to punt the ball. A 23-yard return gave the Cats a short field at 27-yard line. Sullivan went back to the air, this time it was a short pass to Swedberg which advanced the ball to the 8-yard line. A couple of plays later, he hit Maline in the end zone for another Big Blue TD. Sullivan bullied his way across the goal line for the 2-point conversion and the Wallace lead had increased to 24-0.

The Wildcats continued to have their way on both sides of the ball; defensively, they were relentless and offensively, they were all but unstoppable. Wallace was able to score two more times in the first quarter; Swedberg took a 29-yard catch and run down the sideline for six points and then with 9 seconds on the clock, Logan Rosentrater battled his way into the end zone on a 16-yard touchdown run. The Cats ended the quarter with a 36-0 lead.

The pace slowed down a bit in the second quarter but Wallace continued to dominate. Penalty flags delayed some drives and took points off the board but the Cats just found another way to get the job done.
