Wood beats defending Class C state champion
Junior Beau Wood defeated the 2017 Class C state champion to take first at the Gordon-Rushville meet and remain undefeated.
Ten Perkins County wrestlers scored 69 points to take ninth place at the meet on Dec. 9.
Wood, who received the outstanding wrestler medal, pinned his first two opponents in the 182-pound class. Coach Dustin Stodola said he broke his nose during the second match, but was able to wear a mask to compete in the finals.
Wood wrestled undefeated defending Class C champion Donald Stephen of Valentine in the championship, winning by decision, 6-3, to take the gold and bring his record to 9-0.
