Plainsmen senior Beau Wood (right) celebrated his 100th win in Garden County this weekend.

Wood claims 100th career win

Perkins County wrestlers got plenty of action this week with a triangular at home on Thursday and the Garden County Invite on Saturday.

PC claimed wins over Garden County and Bayard after facing them in duels in PC on Thursday, Jan. 3. Nearly all of the opposing teams’ points came from forfeits in PC’s open weight classes.

At the Garden County Invite in Oshkosh on Jan. 5, Beau Wood once again took the gold and also claimed his 100th career win.

In the 195-pound division, Wood pinned his first two opponents to again face Karsen Hunter of Bayard in the championship, winning by decision 6-2. Three of Hunter’s four losses this season have been to Wood.

Jace Wid placed third in the 160-pound division, losing his only match to 18-2 Austin Garcia of Morrill.

Brandon Knoles went 2-2 to place fourth in the 220-pound division and Kyler Bullock claimed his first win of the season to take fifth in the 170-pound division.

Trye Hickey and Deitrik Brueggeman also contributed to the team’s 64 points. PC placed 10th out of 21 teams.

Head Coach Tanner Collins said he was very pleased with how the team finished matches on Thursday to beat both Bayard and Garden County.

“We regressed a little in Garden County, but got some good mat time coming off a break. I look forward to turning the corner this weekend and hopefully putting some things together to win a few more matches,” he said.
