Beau Wood came home from the state wrestling tournament with the third place medal in the 182 lb. bracket, the only Plainsman placing at the meet, which took place Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 16-18 in Omaha. He scored 16 points for the team.
Perkins County scored 25 points, and finished 27th out of 64 Class D teams.
Wood pinned his first opponent, Gage Herbert of Guardian Angels Central Catholic in 3:58 in championship round one. In quarterfinals, he beat Cody Downey of Southwest by decision, but lost by major decision in semis to the undefeated Tori Huffman of Burwell. In consolation semis, Wood won by decision against Seth Racicky of Ansley/Litchfield. His 6-0 defeat of Scott Taylor of Medicine Valley earned him the third place spot.
Other Perkins County state qualifiers were Kiffen Cook, Jace Wid, Jack Kennicutt and Emilio Perez.
