Wrestlers medal four at Hi-Line meet

Sophomore Colton Pouk led the Plainsmen wrestlers at the Hi-Line Invitational wrestling meet in Elwood Friday, bringing home a second place medal at 138.

Pouk won his first match on a 19-3 technical fall and came back in the second round with a pin in just 1:17.

He fell to Jon Peterka of Sutherland in the championship, giving up a pin at the 1:17 mark. 

Three others brought home medals including a third place finish by Brandon Knoles at 220 and fourth place finishes by Kannon Palu, 182, and Ashton Meyer at 285.

Coach Tanner Collins said Ashton and his twin brother Austin wrestled each other in a consolation match that captivated the crowd. 

Collins said Ashton came out on top this time but they go back and forth in practice.

The wrestlers did an overnight and competed in the Broken Bow Invitational Saturday. 

He said there were some really tough teams there with Knoles bringing home the only medal. 

Collins said they need to work on getting in shape. They missed practices due to the storm and Thanksgiving and went into last week with just four practices.

This week the wrestlers will travel to Gordon-Rushville for their meet.
