Perkins County Schools athletes are gearing up for the fall 2021 sports seasons. The volleyball team kicks off their season Thursday, Aug. 26 with a triangular in Sutherland. The girls golf team gathered after a practice in prepration for their first meet at Bayard Thursday Aug. 26.The PCS cross country team will open their season at the North Platte St. Pat’s meet Thursday, Sept. 2. The Plainsmen football team opens the season at home when they take on the Maxwell Tigers Friday, Aug.  27. There are 19 out for volleyball, seven for golf, 10 for cross country and 31 for football.

According to organizer Vic Perez, over 45 peewee players from the Tri County Youth League baseball teams came together in Grant on July 15 to compete in an All-Star game. Perez said the Grant coaches came together and made the event possible.  The players were split into four teams; North Juniors, and South Juniors, North Seniors and South Seniors. The South Juniors won their game 9-6 and the North Seniors came out on top 12-9. Including the players, nearly 300 people were in attendance to enjoy the games, as well as a meal put on by the Perkins County FFA.
