The State of Nebraska had two college volleyball teams fighting to get a national championship back to their respective campuses this past week. But each one of them came up just a little short.
The Lady Cats opened their 2019-20 basketball season with an away game in Wauneta on Thursday Dec. 5. The Wallace girls took the lead early in the game, ending the first quarter with 11 points over Wauneta’s 8, and went into half time with a 24-12 lead over the Broncos. Despite Wauneta outscoring the Cats in the second half, they still took a two point win, 36-34. The following day, Wallace fell in a rough first home game against Maywood Hayes Center. MHS left the Lady Cats scrambling to catch up after scoring 20-2 in the first and taking their lead to 33-12 at half time. In the end, Wallace couldn’t come back and lost 58-16. The Wallace Wildcats got their basketball season off to a great start by defeating two conference rivals last week.

While the Lady Plainsmen opened the season 0-2, falling to Hershey and Wray, Colorado, Coach Katie Cross liked what she saw from her team in the opening weekend of play.
