The Grant Volunteer Fire Department put on their annual firework show, sponsored by the Perkins County Chamber of Commerce, on Sunday, July 4 at the Perkins County fairgrounds. Community members gathered close by to view the Independence Day show. One of the fireworks from the evening created a smiley face as it exploded in the night sky.
Sunday, June 27, Steve Sousek began his second Runborn fundraiser, and he arrived in Grant that evening on foot. After staying the night, he arrived at the town’s new pool Monday morning ready to swim 2.4 miles at 5:30 a.m. Once he finished his swim, he headed out of town on his bike, passing by Madrid, Elsie and Wallace on the way to his next overnight stop. Sousek is attempting to complete five Ironman Triathlons across a five-day span, raising money for St. Gianna Women’s Home and Women’s Care Center of Lincoln. He will finish his trek Thursday, July 1 in Nebraska City.
Laura Rice of Venango, Nebraska, was convinced by Creative Traditions owner Julie Haake to enter some of her quilting talent in the Quilts of the Plains show in Wray on Saturday, June 26.
The youth summer reading program put on by Hastings Memorial Library is coming to a close, and the adult reading program will pick up July 12.
