Perkins County’s Plainsmen donned throwback uniforms with the name “Pritchett” on the back of each jersey for Friday’s game with Wauneta-Palisade. All of Friday night’s games were played in the Pritchett Gym as part of the throwback theme. The idea of the night was to honor Larry Pritchett for his many years of service to the school as a coach, teacher, mentor and lastly as a school board member. He just completed his term on the board and chose not to seek re-election. The idea then blossomed into celebrating state champion coaches and players in all sports from Venango, Madrid, Elsie and Wheatland schools that now comprise Perkins County Schools. However, that plan got derailed in late 2020 when COVID-19 restrictions limited game attendance to family members only and it was unknown how long those restrictions would be in place. Pritchett has decided to avoid large crowds in an effort to avoid contracting COVID-19, so unfortunately was unable to attend Friday’s event. See “Pitching with Pritch” on page 4 for comment from Larry about the evening.
